Base layers are a lightweight insulating layer that you wear next to the skin. They need to be worn snugly to prevent hot air being wafted out during activity, and to allow the effective transportation of perspiration. Being lightweight they are ideal to be worn in Spring and Autumn, and form the first layer of thermal insulation during cold winter months.
